After running behind Mercedes-Benz in the U.S. luxury cars race for the past three years, BMW is now ahead of the pack. Sales of BMW brand vehicles increased 2.9 percent in March 2019 for a total of 32,228 over the 31,311 vehicles sold in March 2018. Top-selling vehicles in March included the BMW X3 and BMW X5 Sports Activity Vehicles, along with the all-new BMW 3 Series sedan and the BMW X7 Sports Activity Vehicle, both in their first full month of sales.
Thanks to the 2.9 percent increase, BMW ended the first quarter with a luxury sales lead of 2,717 units. In 2018, Mercedes-Benz sold nearly 5,000 more vehicles in the United States than BMW. The low demand for the GLA crossover and GLE sport utility vehicle sent Mercedes sales down 9.3 percent for the first three months of the year.
Sales of the BMW X3 reached 6,727 units in March, once again making it the best-selling BMW in the U.S. The BMW X7 had a very strong introduction in its first month on showroom floors, selling 2,186 units.
Lexus continues to improve its sales performance with an increase of 4 percent in the first quarter. The RX SUV deliveries saw an 8.2 percent increase.

Audi bounced back from a five-month streak of falling deliveries with a 1.1 percent gain in March, driven by the Q5 and Q7 SUVs. Deliveries are still down 3.9 percent so far this year.
With the new 3 Series, 7 Series Facelift and 8 Series Coupe and Convertible getting ready for their market introduction, BMW expects to have a strong year.
