Lexus USA has reported 30,801 total sales for August 2017, a 4.1% decrease over last year, yet it managed to finish first in the U.S. car luxury sales. Lexus’ sales were aided by the ES model which was up 9.7 percent, to 6,404. Perennial Lexus bestseller RX was up 7.1 percent, to 10,391. NX ticked up 2 percent, to 5,517.
Second last month was Mercedes brand was off 10.7 percent, to 25,373 amid shortages of several models. C-Class was off 13.4 percent, to 5,304 and E-Class/CLS was down 26.8 percent, to 3,710. The SUV lineup had mixed results: GLA-Class jumped 88.5 percent, to 1,994, while GLC slid 4.6 percent, to 4,498. GLE was off just 0.2 percent, to 3,750, and GLS was down 10.4 percent, to 2,610.
Sales of BMW brand vehicles decreased 7.7 percent in August for a total of 23,553 compared to 25,531 vehicles sold in August 2016. Notable vehicle sales in August include the BMW 4 Series and BMW 5 Series, which both showed strong gains for the second straight month, and the BMW X1. The BMW 4 Series increased 49.3 percent to 3,412 vehicles, while the BMW 5 Series which increased 37.6 percent to 3,587 vehicles. The BMW X1 increased 39 percent to 2,002 vehicles.
Audi reported sales of 19,811 units, up 2.8 percent. The Q5 SUV was the sales leader again, up 7.9 percent, to 4,767.
Q7 had a 35.2-percent gain, to 3,174, A4 was off 7.4 percent, to 2,746 and A3 fell 29.1 percent, to 1,904. The A5 Coupe jumped 207 percent, to 2,603.
Year-to-date, the BMW brand is down 5 percent in the U.S. on sales of 194,604 vehicles compared to 204,744 sold in the first eight months of 2016. Mercedes’ sales year-to-date accounts for 213,242 units, while Lexus comes third with 193,463 units.
