The ultra-sporty vehicles of the BMW M GmbH have contributed significantly to the BMW Group record sales in 2015. In addition to the classic M-models – such as M3 or M5 – the M division also develops M Performance Automobiles – like the M135i or M550d.

In 2015, BMW sold around 63,000 vehicles with the M in the name, which is an increase by approximately 40 percent over the previous year. The BMW M3, M4, M5, M6, X5 M and X6 M accounted for around 35,000 vehicles.

The largest market for M cars continue to be the US, UK and Germany with a 65 percent increase compared to 2014.

With a volume of 14,500 units, the United States account for more than 40 percent of the global BMW M sales and defend its role as the main market of the M GmbH by a wide margin. In the rankings, Great Britain follows with 4,000 and Germany with 3,200 units.

With approximately 28,000 units and an increase of more than 16 percent, the BMW M Performance models were able to continue their fledgling success story. Given their lower price and especially the love of Europeans for diesels, it’s no surprise that European markets represent a larger share.

Around 6,400 units were sold in the German home market, 5,000 units in the US and 4,000 units in Great Britain.

In 2016, the new entry-level model BMW M2 is intended to contribute to a further increase of the BMW M-sales figures, and the Competition Package for the BMW M3 and M4 and the special model BMW M4 GTS will add to the bottom line. The BMW M Performance Automobiles family will also increase with the addition of a M760Li model.
