Along with the new BMW M6, the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe is the other big star at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.
The 4+1 seat addition to the 6 Series line combines stunning proportions, design and driving dynamics of the 6 Series Coupe with interior room and amenities for up to five passengers.
The 6 Series Gran Coupe will cater to buyers looking for a sporty and sleek-looking BMW without sacrificing interior space and storage; think along the line of hipsters with bespoked tailor suits and with a sense of appreciation for luxury and design. We believe the 6 Series Gran Coupe will become a usual presence at valet parking in cities like New York, Los Angeles or Miami.
From launch time, the 6 Series Gran Coupe will be available with the M Sport Package. The car introduced in Geneva was painted in a Frozen Bronze Metallic color.
Also available from launch is the BMW Individual range of products, which allows customers to tailor the exterior and interior of their BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe precisely and exclusively to their personal style. The four BMW Individual paint shades are joined in the range by BMW Individual special paint finishes and a selection of matt paint finishes. For example, the BMW Individual matt finish Frozen Bronze metallic is available exclusively for the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe. BMW Individual light-alloy wheels in V-spoke design can be specified in 19 and 20-inch format.
One of the highlights of the BMW Individual range of interior options is the Opal White full-leather trim specially developed for the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe, combined with the interior color Amaro Brown. Here, the leather-covered instrument panel and Alcantara BMW Individual roof liner are also presented in Amaro Brown.
The entry-level model 640i is powered by a 3.0 liter six-cylinder TwinPower rated at 225 kW/315 hp at 5,800 to 6,00 and high peak torque of 330 lb-ft, on stream between 1,300 and 4,500 rpm. Highest offering, 650i Gran Coupe uses an upgraded 4.4-liter V-8 engine (N63Tu) that adds BMW’s VALVETRONIC variable valve timing with 445 hp between 5,500 and 6,000 rpm (a 45 hp increase), and peak torque of 480 lb-ft between 2,000 and 4,500 rpm (a 30 lbs-ft increase).
The BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe will be offered as three distinct models in the US. The TwinPower Turbo inline 6 powered 2013 BMW 640i Gran Coupe is the initial model and arrives early this summer. Later in the summer, the TwinPower Turbo V-8 powered 2013 BMW 650i Gran Coupe and the all-wheel drive 2013 BMW 650i xDrive Gran Coupe will join the range.
