EVO magazines poses THE question: “With 552bhp from its twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 engine, can the all-new F10-generation BMW M5 sports saloon dispatch its rivals in a drag race? The Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, Porsche Panamera S and Jaguar XFR provide some stiff competition.
The number of ponies aligned at the start line equal 2,020. All three vehicles are producing individually between 400 and 560 horsepower.
While the BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG send the power to the rear-wheels, the Porsche Panamera S is an all-wheel drive vehicle.
The Panamera S boasts a twin-turbocharged 4.8-liter V8 with 400 horsepower, clearly the non-favorite here and we wish they would have used the Turbo version and its 550 ponies.
Mercedes-Benz uses a new 5.5-liter V8 biturbo engine instead of the old naturally-aspirated 6.2 liter unit. With the AMG performance package, the E63 outputs 557 horsepower and 590 lb-of torque. The F10 M5 uses a high-revving 4.4-liter (4395cc) turbocharged engine with 560 horsepower from 5,750-7,000 rpm and 502 lb-ft of torque from only 1500rpm.
Jaguar XFR is powered by a supercharged- 5.0 liter V8 producing 510 horsepower and 461 ft-lbs of torque.
Who takes the win? Let’s have a look.
