Just last week we showed you a video showcasing just how fast the BMW 750i is in a straight line. The updated model got a new engine under the hood and is now one of the fastest limousines you can buy. In that post I rhetorically asked whether anyone would possibly need to spend extra to get the M760Li xDrive model, considering how fast the V8 version already is. Well, the guys from AutoTopNL just posted another video, to settle such a dispute.
In the footage below we have the 2020 BMW M760Li xDrive doing the usual sprints on the Autobahn. The numbers it posts are pretty much worthy of a sportscar but let’s take a closer look. Compared to the 750i, the M760Li xDrive has a V12 under the hood. To be more precise, it’s a 6.6-liter twin-turbo V12 making 585 HP and 850 Nm of torque. That’s just 55 HP and 100 Nm more than the V8. How does that translate into performance?
Well, the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint takes 3.9 seconds, 0.4 seconds faster than the 750i. The 0-200 km/h (124 mph) sprint takes 13.54 seconds, about one second faster than the 750i, which was clocked at 14.41. The 1/4 mile in the M760Li xDrive is covered in 11.9 seconds while on the 750i it takes 12.19 seconds. Going from 100 to 200 km/h (62-124 mph) is pretty close between the two, the V12-powered model being faster by about half a second at 9.63s. Last but not least, the M760Li was faster to 250 km/h (155 mph) by over 2 seconds.
Is that enough to justify getting a V12? I guess not. Looking at the price tags, the V12 model asks for nearly $50,000 and that’s a lot of money. Sure, you get more kit inside it as standard but still… In the end though, the biggest difference between these two monsters is how they feel and there’s just no surrogate for a V12 out there right now. You don’t need it, but you want it.
