Now that the 8 Series Coupe is on sale and the 8 Series Convertible is bound to reach dealers in the spring, it’s time to take a closer look at the one remaining body style still in the works. The BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe is bound to be launched later this year and it’s going to offer four doors and a lot of luxury to those looking for the best in the BMW range. Just like the 6 Series Gran Coupe before it, the four-door coupe with the number 8 on the boot will be appealing to a very limited niche.
The video below shows the car being put to the test on the Nurburgring before winter fully kicked in. In the footage below, we get to see how the car handles the tricky layout of the famous Green Hell, but also how it shapes up compared to the BMW M8 Gran Coupe Concept launched last year. However, the model at hand is the M Performance one, dubbed BMW M850i xDrive. This will be one of the first versions available from launch.
We can tell this is not an M car by the exhaust pipes and the lack of M side mirrors, as well as other small details. Nevertheless, knowing just how fast the BMW M850i xDrive is, the Gran Coupe is simply flying around on the track. It also looks like the four-door version grew in size a bit and, understandably so, in heft. As it turns into corners you can actually see it slipping sideways, giving away the weight underneath its body.
Nevertheless, the one everyone will be waiting for is the M8 Gran Coupe which is set to fill in the huge shoes left void by the M6 Gran Coupe, a car considered by many the most beautiful BMW model in the range not long ago. With over 600 HP and all-wheel drive, this stylish coupe will surely turn a lot of heads when it arrives.
