Most BMW enthusiasts are big fans of the BMW 1 Series Hatchback. The idea that they can have a fun-to-drive, rear-wheel drive hot-hatch from BMW is an incredibly appealing one. The best 1er of all, though, is the BMW M140i, which sports a turbocharged 3.0 liter inline-six engine up front that makes 340 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. You can also get that engine with a six-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive, making it quite possibly the best daily driver BMW makes.
The only real downside of the M140i is that it looks a bit unexciting for some. Personally, I’m a bit boring so I think it looks great but some enthusiasts might want something a bit more exciting. If that’s the case, 3D Design might have a visual upgrade kit for you.
Up front, there’s a carbon fiber lip that’s added onto the M Sport front bumper that adds some visual sportiness. But it’s subtle enough, especially on a grey car, that it doesn’t look obnoxious. Out back, a carbon fiber rear diffuser houses two exhaust pipes and it looks properly sporty. It makes what is seemingly just a normal hatchback look like a genuine performance machine. Again, though, it looks classy enough to not look silly.
3D Design also offers its own stainless steel exhaust system, which is noise-compliant in Japan, as that’s where 3D Design is from. We haven’t heard 3D Design’s exhaust for the M140i but we expect it to sound good, as the BMW’s B58 engine usually does sound really good.
Sometimes I really wish I lived in Europe so I could buy some of these incredible cars. The BMW M140i is an awesome car and I’d love to have one in my garage that I could add parts like these 3D Design parts to it. Sadly, I can’t.
