The BMW M4 CS is regarded by some as the best version of the iconic BMW M4, as it comes with an almost perfect mix between performance and practicality. Furthermore, compared to the M4 GTS it has a lower price tag and is more forgiving on public roads. Therefore, it attracted the attention of various tuners out there and today G-Power unveiled a special version of the CS, one that will seriously rival the GTS in terms of performance.
By using a combination of hardware and software modifications, G-Power managed to increase the power of the 3.0-liter inline-six engine to a whopping 600 hp at 6,500 rpm whereas the maximum torque rises to 740 Nm (546 lb-ft) which is available between 4,000 and 5,500 rpm. One of the keys to this is a bespoke engine software, the so called G-Power-performance software. Furthermore, the extra power extracted from the S55B30 engine is a function of the oil and water temperatures, and respects all its OE protection and diagnostic functions.
Since the standard turbocharger system cannot flow enough air to reach these high power levels, G-Power carried out significant modifications. The most important of these is the replacement of the standard compressor wheel with a larger precision CNC milled unit, developed and manufactured in-house by the tuner. Various other modifications are carried out to improve the flow rate and speed and volume, resulting in a big increase in efficiency. As the new wheel is also lighter, inertia and spin up time are reduced, which results in better throttle response.
At the same time the engineers addressed the exhaust turbine wheel, which uses curved turbine blades with capped ends to ensure reduced exhaust gas temperatures. This in itself allows the use of higher boost pressures. The turbocharger housing had to be machined out to accommodate the new compressor and exhaust turbine wheels, and internal gas flow optimization was also carried out. Finally, dynamic fine balancing ensures long-term reliability of the unit.
The G-Power M4 CS therefore leaps off the line, hitting 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.7 seconds. And thanks to the removal of the electronic Vmax limiter, it easily strides up to over 320 km/h (200 mph). The exhaust note is a very important ingredient too, and the tuner put a lot of effort into creating a new soundtrack that accompanies its M4 CS’s incredible performance. Crafted from titanium, the bespoke ultra-lightweight exhaust system delivers a new sound from its four 90-millimeter carbon fibre tailpipes.
