To say that BMW is putting a lot of resources into promoting their iPerformance lineup would be an understatement. As proven at the Chicago Auto Show – where three plug-in hybrids are present – the iPerformance family of hybrids will play an important role in the future for the Bavarian brand. The new 2018 BMW 530e is the latest addition to the lineup and one of the best buys in the 5 Series family. We’ve recently touched on the buying decision between a gasoline powered 5 Series or a hybrid, and we gave the edge to the on-the-demand electric-driven business sedan.
As for its power source, trailblazing BMW eDrive technology teams up an eDrive electric motor with a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo combustion engine to create an exceptionally efficient and powerful plug-in hybrid drive system. Combined system output of 248 hp and 310 lb-ft. of peak torque propels the BMW 530e iPerformance Sedan from 0 to 60 mph in 6.0 seconds and the BMW 530e xDrive iPerformance Sedan in 5.8 seconds.
Offering a range of 45 km (28 miles) on battery power alone and with a combined fuel consumption figure estimated at 2 l/100 km (117 mpg) on the NEDC testing cycle, this car emitd about 46 grams of CO2 per kilometer.
The 2018 BMW 530e iPerformance Sedan will be available starting at $51,400 and the BMW 530e xDrive iPerformance Sedan for $53,700, plus $995 Destination and Handling.
