When BMW announced that BMW Films would be making yet another short film, the entire BMW fanbase went insane. We all love the BMW Films…erm…films, as they show off BMWs as they’re meant to be driven. It seems as if the excitement has spread to a much wider range of people than just BMW fans, as “The Escape” was the seventh most watched YouTube ad for the month of October.
According to Adweek, “The Escape” is the seventh most watched product video on YouTube, putting it ahead of even a Donald Trump Presidential ad. Apparently, BMW Films aren’t just popular among BMW enthusiasts. It does make sense, though, as the short film featured more than just a BMW product advertisement. It was more movie than commercial, as it featured a big time director (Neill Blomkamp), a star-studded case (Clive Owen, Vera Farmiga, Dakota Fanning) and big-time action sequences.
Admittedly, it’s stats might be a bit padded. BMW fans probably watched it over and over and over again, which most likely led to it having so many views. I know I watched it a few times myself and showed it to other people after that. So I certainly contributed to a few of those views. But what can I say, it’s a good damn video.
