According to Frank van Meel, Managing Director of BMW M, the sports cars division is building five M4 GTS models per day. One day of work in the M factory is enough to supply the entire allocation for the Dutch market.

The manufacturer will start in March with the construction of the first M4 GTS and it will continue until December 2016 when exactly 700 units would have rolled off the production line in Garching. Exactly 300 of them go to the United States, 50 to Canada. The remaining cars are distributed to the rest of the world. When the cars are delivered is not known yet, but we expect to see first units arriving in customers’ hands in April 2016.

Van Meel said he made sure everyone had a chance to qualify for the now sold-out sports coupe. “Anyone interested, should contact the local dealer,” explains Van Meel. Even though demand has surpassed supply, BMW says it never considered increasing the production numbers. “No, we would never do that,” Van Meel said. “For the buyers, it is important that the edition is limited. It would be neat if we could then build more copies than previously announced.”

The car starts its life on the production line of the 4 Series Coupe, but assembled by M GmbH. For example, the Motorsport-branch will be fitting the inter alia, the engine and the carbon-fiber parts. To enable the construction of the M4 GTS, the M division has rigged an additional production line. The hand-built car is made in the same dwelling as the M6 and the M135i GT3 Cup.
