At the 2014 Long Beach Grand Prix, BMW brought out their new F82 M4 Coupe. A reader, Brian Zuk, managed to capture the engine sound of the new M4.
After ditching the amazing V8 naturally-aspirated engine, the new M3 and M4 use a 3.0 liter turbocharged engine that produces 425 HP and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque. The car weighs under 1,500 kg (3,300 lbs). From 0-100 km/h (0-62), the 2014 BMW M4 runs in 4.1 seconds with DCT while the M3 runs the same distance in 4.3 seconds, with the same transmission.
The BMW M3 and BMW M4 comes with an innovative flap arrangement in the twin-pipe exhaust system. The electrically controlled flaps just before the rear silencer minimize exhaust back-pressure and produce a BMW M sound which is striking and unmistakable over the entire engine speed range, as well as giving precise feedback on engine load.
