We initially reported on the M235i back in June 2012, but since then several prototypes have been spied during their testing phase. This new video shows another prototype running around Nurburgring.
Built on the F2x platform, the 2 Series coupe and convertible models are being separated from the 1 Series family. The 2 Series vehicles will be driven by a rear-wheel drive architecture with the possibility of the coupe to be paired with the xDrive system.
Moving away from the somewhat blend and bulky design of the 1 Series, the 2 Series Coupe shows off sportier lines and more visually pleasant headlights and kidney grille.
The front bumper is dominated by large air intakes with fins, a trend started by the new M6 models, and one we anticipate to see in the upcoming M3 and M4. The prototype also features blue M Performance brake calipers and M-specific wheels. On the side, the M235i will carry the M badge now specific to M package models and the M Performance Automobiles.
BMW will build the M235i model at the Leipzig plant with production starting in November 2013.
