Deliveries for the brand new BMW X5 M and X6 M models are kicking off this month and the Germans wanted to highlight the occasion with a short presentation clip. In the footage posted below we get to learn all the key aspects about the two cars, as presented by BMW themselves. From the design to the technical specs, these are the highlights you need to consider when discussing the new BMW M SUVs.
To set apart a BMW X5 M or X6 M from their non-M counterparts all you need to do is look at them a bit more carefully. Their grilles will have double slats and that’s the first giveaway. The grilles also feature M logos while the front bumper has a different layout, to allow more air to be fed into the engine bay. Other distinctive design details are the M side gills, M side mirror covers and, round the back, the different bumper and quad tailpipes.
Inside the car the differences are even bigger. The seats feature semi-integrated headrests and a quilted pattern which can also be found on the door panels. There’s also an M-specific instrument cluster alongside an M HUD. On the center console you’ll also notice a couple of new buttons as well as the new M Steptronic gearshift lever. It’s also from the inside where you can adjust your car’s handling characteristics.
The new BMW X5 M and X6 M already getting M Performance Parts
Unlike on the BMW M5, on the new X5 M and X6 M models the all-wheel drive system can’t be reduced to sending the power solely to the rear wheels. Drivers can choose between 4WD mode and 4WD Sport. The latter allows you to get the rear end spinning but not to the same extent as on the M5. Even so, with 625 HP and a sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) that takes just 3.8 second on the Competition models, these cars are bending the laws of physics.
