In 2020, the BMW 5 Series will get a mild facelift. The design updates will be brought to the exterior and interior design, along with some tech updates. One of those updates is the updated digital instrument panel which replaces the old gauges of the pre-LCI car. Also, the BMW Live Cockpit Professional will be available with a 12.3-inches screen. The new infotainment system is paired with the latest iDrive 7.0.
The system can include the Connected Package Professional which adds a lot of advanced features such as parking availability, traffic status and that. The graphics on this one can even be adapted to mimic the color of the car.
Some BMW online configurators from around the world are already showing the updated dashboard, but it’s unclear whether it can be ordered today.
The BMW Cockpit has been radically revised and modernized in 2018 for the launch of new product, like the BMW X5, BMW 8 Series, BMW Z4 and BMW 3 Series, and it’s now making its way into other new models.
The gear shifter also shows an updated version, a bit more sleek and premium looking than the current generation 5 Series.
The same configurator highlights a new M Sport steering wheel as well.
On the outside, the new BMW 5 Series is going to be sharper and sportier looking than the pre-facelift car and even more premium.
Not many upgrades will take place in the engine department. The biggest of all is the addition of the 48V electrical system which was just announced. There will also be an upgrade to the 5 Series plug-in hybrid, likely using the same technology from the recent 745Le.
When the 2020 BMW 5 Series facelift (LCI in BMW-speak) makes its debut it will likely be an upgrade over the current car overall, with new headlights and taillights. However, its larger grille might invite some controversy from enthusiasts. Only time will tell.
