This weekend, fans of classic cars will be flocking to the Goodwood Revival event. A tradition started 21 years ago by the Earl of March in West Sussex, taking place on his grounds every September, the Goodwood Revival features some pretty awesome scenes. From seeing 60-year old race cars going at it like mad dogs on the track to incredible stands, this venue has it all. This year, Rolls-Royce has set up a stage, replicating the atmosphere of a vintage auto show.
To be more precise, Rolls-Royce wanted to offer visitors a chance to experience an auto show as it was done back in the 1950s. The centerpiece of their presence there will be an example of the company’s pinnacle product of the Revival period, the 1959 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud I two-door drophead coupé. Finished in Black and Red with a matching hood, the car is one of just a handful crafted by coach-builder H. J. Mulliner.
Rolls-Royce will be represented on the legendary motor circuit throughout the event by a 1961 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II long wheelbase saloon. Finished in Sage Green over Smoke Green, this imposing four-door limousine, which has recorded just 9,500 miles in its 58 years, will form part of the Course Director’s entourage. Invited guests will have the opportunity to experience the marque’s defining ‘magic carpet ride’ in surroundings where the only audible sound is, famously, the ticking of the mechanical dashboard clock.
Throughout the weekend, visitors will also be able to see cars from today’s Rolls-Royce model families, as a specially-selected fleet will drive VIPs to the Goodwood Revival from the nearby Home of Rolls-Royce which is literally miles away. Add this to the Mini presence announced yesterday and you’re bound to have a really good time this weekend if you’re in the UK and fancy yourself some classic cars.
