Youtuber Joe Achilles is back with a new video review. This time, Achilles got his hands on the new BMW X3 M Competition and delivers a comprehensive review. Among the many details pointed out, he also takes a look at the value of the X3 M compared to the X3 M40i M Performance model.
Next, he looks at the exterior design of the X3 M and how it evolved in this first model from the regular X3. Of course, the interior cabin is also put up on display, along with all the tech.
The turbocharged inline-six found under the X3 M’s hood is the new S58 engine from M. It’s been worked over to produce 473 hp and 442 pound-feet of torque in the standard X3 M, and 503 hp in the X3 M Competition. That’s enough to get the slow version from 0-60 mph in a claimed 4.1 seconds, and the Competition to 60 in 4 seconds flat. Top speed is limited to 174 mph in the M and 177 mph in Competition models.
That engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and an M-tuned xDrive all-wheel drive system. You’re all probably wondering about that xDrive, though, and whether or not it has the same “2WD” mode as the BMW M5. The answer, unfortunately, is no, it does not. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t play around with it.
The BMW X3 M Competition models ride as standard on 21-inch wheels with a polished Jet Black finish. Tires are 255/40 ZR21 items at the front and 265/40 ZR21 at the rear.
In the US, the BMW X3 M will kick things off at just under $69,900 while the BMW X3 M Competition has an MSRP of $73,055.
The pricing means the average BMW enthusiast has to pay over $15,000 more compared to an M40i model for the full-on M car. The BMW X3 M40i, for example, starts at $54,650 and comes with 355 HP by comparison.
