The BMW 7 Series has been updated this year and, so far, people have only been talking about its grilles. Yes, they are huge and yes, some people dislike them but there’s a lot more to the new 7er than just that. To me, personally, the new 7 Series in M Sport guise actually looks good but you do have to see it in real life to make up your mind as photos are often not complimenting the car’s overall bulky shapes.
Doug DeMuro decided to walk us through what’s new on the 2020 model. As usual, he does go into a lot of details. First off, the new design goes under the lens. That’s important not just because of the dreaded grilles but also because this is the most extensive mid-cycle facelift a 7 Series model has ever received. The changes are massive for a facelift and they do change the car’s looks quite a lot.
The front end has bigger grilles and thinner headlamps, as well as new bumper styles. On the sides you’ll notice new character lines, the disappearance of the ‘hockey stick’ and new wheel styles. Round the back, there’s new taillights, new chrome inserts and a new rear bumper. As I said, there’s a lot going on here. That’s not the case inside though, where everything’s roughly the same, sans the infotainment system.
The 750i model gets the new N63 4.4-liter V8 engine from the M850i. That means the 750i now has 523 HP and 553 lb-ft of torque at its disposal, making it quite a rocket in a straight line. The large limousine will do 60 from standstill in 3.9 seconds now and that’s amazing for a car of this size. Now let’s see what Doug has to say about it and kind of a Dougscore it will get.
