At the moment, the headlines surrounding BMW mostly surround cars like the M2 Competition, M5 and the 8 Series. Forgotten in all of the brand’s new models is the little BMW 230i, the Bavarians’ smallest car. Though, it’s not forgotten due to lack of merit but simply because it’s getting old and newer models are flooding BMW’s portfolio. Despite that, though, the little 2er is still an excellent car.
In this new review from Automobile Mag, Arthur St. Antoine remarks about how the little ole BMW 230i, despite being the brand’s smallest, cheapest car (non-SUV), is still a delight to drive. The 2 Series as a whole is still a great overall sports car, with each variant being seriously good. While the M2 Competition steals the headlines, it’s the 230i works in the background as a fantastic little sports coupe that’s also affordable for most customers.
Under the hood is a buzzy little turbo four-pot with 248 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. When paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive (as fitted in this review), the BMW 230i xDrive is capable of 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds, which is not slow at all. Plus, thanks to its compact size and sharp steering, it feels quicker than that, especially on twisty roads.
That small footprint also allows it to be excellent around town, where it can easily shoot gaps in traffic and is easy to park. So as a daily driver that can also double as a canyon carver, the BMW 230i is a great little car.
On top of all of that, it’s fuel efficient, comfortable enough and has tons of cabin tech. Sure, its back seat is cramped and its trunk isn’t huge. But if you don’t have kids and just want something for you and potentially your better half, you can do much worse than the BMW 230i.
