We’re just back from Palm Springs where BMW hosted their annual “Test Fest”, an event where U.S. media gets to drive the latest and greatest BMW cars. We’ve had the chance to spend some time on and off the track with the new 330i and M340i, the M850i Coupe and Convertible, the X2 M35i, M4 CS, M2 Competition and M5 Competition, Rolls-Royce Cullinan, MINI JCW and GP, and much more.
Even thought all these cars are equally exciting, a couple of novelties stood out for us. One, hot laps in the new BMW X3 M and X4 M (more on that soon), and second, the world premiere of the 2020 BMW ALPINA B7 based on the refreshed 7 Series. We’ve already shared with you some photos yesterday, both on the website and on our Instagram and Facebook channels, but today, we have a new batch of images.
In the next few days, we will also have an exclusive interview with ALPINA CEO Andreas Bovensiepen who will share with us the story behind the refreshed B7.
At a glance, the new 2020 B7 is the 6th generation full-size performance-luxury model from ALPINA and the 3rd generation of B7 to be available in the U.S.
Powered by the the latest generation 4.4-liter V8 engine with two, twin-scroll turbochargers, direct injection and Valvetronic fully variable valve timing and Double-VANOS variable camshaft timing, the new ALPINA B7 delivers 600 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque available from only 2000 rpm all the way up to 5,000 rpm (previously 3,000 – 5,000 rpm).
The new ALPINA B7 now accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds (previously 3.6 seconds) and can reach a maximum speed of 205 mph (previously 194 mph).
Currently, the 2020 ALPINA B7 is the world’s fastest production sedan. Admittedly, it isn’t the fastest sedan to 60 mph. That designation is reserved for the Tesla Model S P100D. However, the 2020 ALPINA B7 now has a top speed of 205 mph.
ALPINA has yet to unveil the final pricing, but the 2020 B7 is expected to cost around $140,000.
