First BMW 8 Series Coupe units are slowly arriving at BMW dealerships around the world and soon customers will be able to take delivery of one of the most luxurious BMWs ever built. Along with the market launch, several regions are also hosting press events introducing the two-door high-end coupe to journalists. Last week we saw France introducing the car and now, it’s UK’s turn to give us a closer look at the car.
The 8er Coupe shown below is the 840d xDrive, the entry-level diesel car which is available in Europe. It features the classy Black Sapphire Metallic color, which is one of the many paints offered with the new 8 Series – Sunset Orange, Mineral White, Alpine White, Carbon Black, Dravit Grey, Sonic Speed Blue and Barcelona Blue, are some of the others. In addition, the 8 Series can be ordered with the help of BMW Individual in just about any paint job.
This particular test car was also equipped with the M M Sport Package, which adds M Sport brakes, an M Sport differential and M Sport-specific styling, including a different steering wheel, seat belts and an Alcantara headlining.
Under the hood, we’re looking at a 3.0 liter six-cylinder configuration with TwinPower turbo delivering 315 hp (235 kW/320 PS) and peak torque of 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) unlocked at 1,750 rpm. The low rpm torque takes the the 840d xDrive from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.9 seconds.
The new 8 Series gets an improved eight-speed Sport gearbox with paddle shifters installed as standard on the steering wheel. It still gets the same rear-bias xDrive all-wheel drive, system, four-wheel steering system, accurate steering and chassis dynamics as the other BMWs.
