Earlier this week, BMW hosted a series of VIP customers in Paris, previewing a series of upcoming models. As expected, cell phone use was prohibited, but one of our readers is able to share some of the things he’s seen there. For starters, BMW M is planning an M8 Competition, a model that really comes as no surprise considering that the M5 also got the sportier package.
According to our reader, the M8 Competition is as you know the M in spades. There is a carbon fiber package which not only slightly lowers the weight, but also provides some great visuals. In standard form, the BMW M8 Competition will be equipped with the carbon ceramic brakes along with the yellow calipers.

Even though not shared at the event, the power output of the M8 Competition will also be increased, so expect around 620 horsepower from the same 4.4 liter V8 TwinTurbo engine. In the M5 Competition, the engine has a peak torque of 553 lb-ft which is exactly as the standard M5, so we won’t be surprised if BMW applied the same formula for the M8 Competition. Of course, the power band will be slightly modified to provide a snappier ride.
The top 8 Series model is for now the M850i which can nail 60 mph in 3.6 seconds, which is right on par with other cars in its segment. For instance, the Aston Martin DB11 V8 takes 3.7 seconds with a bit less power, the Mercedes-AMG GT S takes 3.5 seconds and the W12-powered Bentley Continental GT taking 3.3 seconds.
So we expect the M8 and the M8 Competition to bring superior performance when it launches in 2019.
