BMW M introduced the M2 Performance Parts Concept today at the 2018 Festival of Speed in Goodwood, UK. The concept M2 with M Performance Parts starts with a Frozen Black finish with gold M Performance wrapping that looks really aggressive and motorsport-inspired. Next, it gets a carbon fiber hood with a power dome, a carbon fiber roof finished in a glossy clear finish, a completely new trunk lid with an integrated carbon fiber spoiler and new gold wheels.
The M Performance suspension lowers the car by 20 millimeters and gives it better road-holding ability. Both the suspension and brakes have been finished in black to match the rest of the car. An additional weight reduction of 14 kilograms is achieved by the use of a lighter BMW battery. The complete wheel set with 19-inch M Performance forged wheel Y-spoke 763M in Frozen Gold (expected to be available from 7/2018) with semi-slicks not only provides a visual highlight, it is also six kilograms lighter than the standard wheels.
Many of the other parts M2 will be available later in the year, including the carbon fiber kidney grilles, hood, side panels and even the rear trunk lid. The M Performance carbon fiber tailgate (expected to be available from 11/2018) weighs five kilograms less than the standard part. The M Performance carbon fiber rear diffuser reduces the car’s weight by 0.5 kilograms.
Inside, it gets Alcantara sport seats with gold contrast accents, an M Performance steering wheel with gold stitching and more gold stitching on the door panels. The seats are new but the steering wheel is not, as we’ve tested that wheel on a few different BMWs in the past. The gold stitching is a new touch, though. Alcantara is also a defining feature of the M Performance lightweight rear seats, which reduce the weight of the vehicle by another 13 kilograms.
The M Performance trim finishers also combine the two refined materials – carbon fiber and Alcantara.
