The German tuning powerhouse – AC Schnitzer – needs no introduction. The company has been around for decades and it has built quite a name for itself in the BMW world. Their project cars are not only the epitome of performance, but they also introduce the next level of visual customizations. Hailing from Turkey is this unique and beautiful BMW ACS4 Z4 Coupe which has undergone an extreme makeover.
Let’s kick off this article with a trip in time. In 2005, at the Frankfurt Auto Show, BMW introduced their two seater Z4 coupe which went into production in May 2006. The E85/E86 replaced the Z3 and is the third model in the BMW Z Series. Initial models were in the roadster (E85) body style, with the coupe (E86) body style being added in 2006. As per the Z3, the Z4 was manufactured solely in Greer, South Carolina.
There are two flavors, the 330-hp M and the 255-hp 3.0si. Under the hood of this Z4 featured today is the BMW’s familiar N52 inline-six, of 3.0 liter displacement, variable intake valve lift, and variable intake and exhaust valve timing. The engine makes 255 horsepower (261 bhp) and 315 Nm (232 lb-ft) with the 3.0si manual sprinting to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds and hit the quarter-mile in 14.0 seconds at 101 mph.
But for Baris, the owner of this Z4 Coupe, that wouldn’t cut it. So with the help of AC Schnitzer engineers and some ECU remapping, the ACS4 Z4 Coupe now makes 290 horsepower. Needless to say, the standard sprint should beat the “base” car.
In the visual department, this ACS4 Z4 Coupe received the following upgrades:
- ACS4 Z4M hood
- ACS4 Z4M Front Bumper with chrome grill
- ACS4 Z4M Rear Bumper
- ACS4 Z4M Rear Carbon Diffuser
- ACS4 Z4M double sport rear silencers and quad exhaust pipes with chromed racing tailtrim
- ACS4 Front fender deflectors with chromeline set
- ACS4 Air Vented Side Skirts
- ACS4 Z4 coupe 3 pieces U type Rear Wing
The interior has also gone through some transformations, albeit, not as extreme as the exterior:
- ACS4 Carbon Trims
- ACS4 Carbon Automatic Gear Knob
- ACS4 Aluminum Pedal set and foot rest
- ACS4 Aluminum Handbrake Lever Knob
- ACS4 Velour Floor Mats
The suspension upgrades come courtesy of KW who provided a sportier setup – adjustable coilovers with height, stiffness and camber/caster settings. To be even more special, the ACS4 Z4 Coupe runs on 18 inch gunmetal-painted M3 CSL wheels, along with some hefty tires – front 225/40/18, rear 255/35/18.
Last but not least important on the list of upgrades are the BMW factory accessories – red/black leather interior, Z4 M seats, Sport button, M Steering Wheel and the DSP Sound System with 10 speakers.
The end result is an absolutely brilliant machine, one that many BMW fans are eager to be built again.
