Tesla’s top model – the S P100D – is often pitted against gasoline-powered supercars, but from time to time, we see the California-based electric vehicles going head-to-head with cars from Munich. We’ve also seen recently the P90D model being benchmarked on a straight line against the new F90 M5, but today’s comparison involves the lesser versions of the Model S.
The Tesla Model S 75D goes to the drag strip to take on the BMW i8 plug-in hybrid, the Munich’s flagship model.
The Model S 75D boasts a claimed 470 horsepower and runs from 0 to 62 MPH in just 4.4 seconds. However, it’s quite heavy at 4,850 pounds. Meanwhile, the BMW i8 weighs only 3,525 pounds and boasts 357 horsepower. The standard spring is measured at 4.4 seconds.
Both cars are very good and both have impressive performance, luxury and technology. Though both have very clear cut goals that differ from each others’ greatly. The Tesla Model S is clearly the more green one out of two, whereas the BMW i8 aims to wow with its design and carbon-fiber lightweight construction.
Let’s watch the drag race below.
