If you haven’t seen anything these guys made, TheStraightPipes channel is one of the most entertaining car channels on YouTube right now. Unlike some, over the top YouTubers, these guys are actually quite entertaining and do know a lot about cars that they’re reviewing. In this video, these two grab a detailed look at the 2018 BMW 440i xDrive M Performance model, giving their take on one of the best “civilian” BMW’s in production today.
Even in its stock form, the BMW 440i Coupe is a beast. Placed just a tad below the M4, it’s powered by the B58 3.0 Liter straight-six BMW TwinPower Turbo engine, delivering 320 horsepower and 332lb-ft (450Nm) of torque. In its standard guise, the car will accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 5.1 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 155mph (250km/h). While that looks impressive at first, it gets even better with an M Performance Power kit, offered by BMW for select 440i models included in all guises, Coupe, Convertible or Gran Coupe.
With the BMW M Performance kit, the power output is brought up to 355 horsepower and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. This is done through some ECU tuning along with a new intake and exhaust. Probably the best part of this upgrade is the aforementioned M Performance exhaust system. Perfectly matched to the 7,000 rpm straight-six symphony and creamy smooth 8-speed ZF transmission, the BMW 440i xDrive sings one of the best tunes in the automotive world and gets us just a step below the much famed BMW M4 models.
