While we’re still waiting for the day when we can get behind the wheel of the new M4 CS, the folks at BMW have decided to bring the supped up M4 to their “Test Fest” at the Thermal Club and let us enjoy some hot laps. Our own Nico DeMattia described the CS as the “Goldilocks variant of the M4, something more performance-oriented than even the M4 Competition Package but far more livable than the M4 GTS — the BMW M4 CS.”
In the M4 CS, BMW’s 3.0-liter inline-six gets a 10-horsepower bump over the Competition Package for a total output of 460 horsepower. The engine features two single-scroll turbochargers, a charge air cooler, and both variable valve timing and double-VANOS variable camshaft timing. The only available transmission is BMW’s seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission. The M4 CS hits 62 mph in 3.9 seconds.
The CS also comes standard with BMW’s Adaptive M suspension and Style 763M wheels which debuted on the M2 and M3 at the 2017 NYIAS comes wrapped with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.
The M4 CS shown to us in Palm Springs is the San Marino Blue Metallic, one of the only three standard colors available for the M4 CS; the other two are the Lime Rock Grey Metallic and a very special Frozen Dark Blue II.
BMW tested the M4 CS extensively on the Nurburgring, because of course it did, and it apparently clocked a time of 7:38, which puts it right in between the M4 GTS and standard M4.
