As the new BMW X4 is getting close to entering full-scale production, the production of the first model comes to an end. In January, the BMW Manufacturing plant in Spartanburg celebrated the 200,000th BMW X4 to roll off the assembly line, in a small ceremony. This wasn’t the last X4 made though, as the production is scheduled to end in March, as the production of the second generation kicks off.
The anniversary vehicle was an Alpine White metallic xDrive20d model and will be delivered to a customer in Asia. This latest production anniversary also marks the start of the final sprint for the first-generation BMW X4 since it was launched, in 2014. Ever since the compact SAC was launched, BMW claimed that it created a new category of vehicle. Since its launch, other manufacturers joined in and more will do the same in the future.
Due to its popularity, the first BMW X4 contributed significantly to the continuously increasing market success of the BMW X models. Combining robust all-round qualities with the sporty elegance of a BMW coupé, the model succeeded in arousing the enthusiasm of new target groups for the unique driving pleasure offered by a BMW X model. Managing to sell in over 200,000 units in its short lifespan, the first-gen X4 definitely proved a point.
Now the new X4 will take over and BMW definitely banks a lot on it. Available initially in two M Performance versions, the M40i and M40d, the new Sports Activity Coupe has what it takes to take the fight to the competition. Furthermore, the M division iw working on a BMW X4 M model which is bound to be quite desirable by those who consider the X6 M a bit too much.
