Whenever we compare two cars that are even slightly different, we hear about it from readers. People don’t like to see how different cars can do against each other, even though it’s fun to find out. Those people are not going to like this drag race, as it pits three cars in a drag race that have absolutely no business racing each other. In this video from TFLC, the BMW X3 takes on the new 2018 Jeep Wrangler and the downright ancient Hummer H2.
Those cars have nothing in common, really. The only similarities are the fact that they can all power all four wheels. Aside from that, they’re from different planets.
The BMW X3 is brand new, sporting a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, powering an eight-speed automatic and xDrive all-wheel drive. It makes 248 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, making it the least powerful car in this test by quite a bit.
But the BMW X3 waits in the wings as the Jeep Wrangler and the Hummer H2 drag race each other. The Jeep makes 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque from its 3.6 liter V6 engine. That, too, is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and normally powers its rear wheels with four-wheel drive capability. The Hummer H2 uses a 6.0 liter Vortec V8 and makes almost 400 hp. To be honest, it’s so old, no one really cares. Still, off the line, the Jeep gets a bad start and it still crushes the Hummer in its drag race.
So the Jeep Wrangler is what takes on the BMW X3. After a botched start by the Jeep, they do a proper race and get it right. Off the line, the BMW X3 takes the lead quickly and holds it the entire time, winning the race easily. So with the least amount of power and torque, the Bimmer is by far the quickest car. I guess Bavarian horses are stronger than American ones.
