When it comes to market in 2018, the new BMW X2 will be the brand’s most chic, hipsterish and fun car to look at. And hopefully to drive as well. Its new and fresh design is a departure from the typical X models, with plenty of new ideas and design cues. Among the new model’s defining styling elements is a fresh interpretation of the signature kidney grille and round fog lamps mounted high within its heavily structured front bumper. The X2 also features a long hood, a steeply raked windshield, a sleek greenhouse, and an aggressively styled rear end with horizontal taillights.
But none of those would be enough without a proper color palette, and, for the first time, BMW is giving us the funkiest colors ever. To millennials and lifestyle people, this is breath of fresh air and a nice departure from the typical and conservative black, white and grey colors. And even though those shades are still represented within the lineup, the bulk of the color options are quite unique and more importantly, new to the brand.
Among those colors we have the launch colors Galvanic Gold, Misano Blue and Mediterranean Blue, coupled with a beautiful Sunset Orange and Dark Olive. All the new paint options for the X2 come to emphasize its demographic, one that has already made the X1 one of the most popular SUVs on the road.
Powering the BMW X2 will be the typical suite of small four-cylinder engines, both petrol and diesel. So there will be a BMW X2 xDrive18i, xDrive20i, xDrive28i, xDrive20d and xDrive25d. Transmission options will be either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Though, the one to have is the BMW X2 xDrive20i, as it comes with the most potent of petrol engines — a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder making 192 hp and 206 lb-ft of torque, with only the DCT gearbox available. BMW claims it can get from 0-60 mph in 7.7 seconds.
The BMW X2 xDrive28i with 228 horsepower will be available in the US in Spring 2018.
