After more than 20 years, one of the most desirable nameplates in BMW’s portfolio is ready to make a comeback. Previewed by the 8 Series Concept introduced at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, the production Coupe will most likely blow everyone away when launched. Until then though, BMW’s marketing people will make sure to turn the upcoming model into our obsession, using tools such as the video posted below.
While those old enough to have experienced the original will have fond memories of the car, there’s a whole new demographic out there born in the 90s that will find the new model fresh and possibly tempting enough to create another cult. To be launched in production clothes next year, the new 8 Series will most likely give the S-Class Coupe a serious run for the money, the two probably battling out the upper luxury echelon. For now, Audi doesn’t seem to have a competitor on the line, but I’m sure it will be well welcomed if the Ingolstadt-based company ever decides to throw its name in the hat.
In the meantime, we can play the guessing game, trying to figure out the specs and engines on the future models. So far, we know that BMW trademarked a bunch of nameplates, from the 840i to the M8 but what they will bring to the table exactly still remains to be figured out. Will there be a V12 model? After all, the originals were known for their V8 and V12 powerplants which made them extremely desirable in the first place. It’s hard to tell right now and it seems like the day can’t come soon enough.
As for the video posted below, it seems to agree with us that going back in time is not possible for more than just a second, when reminiscing. That said, looking towards the future seems a lot easier from aboard the 8 Series. I mean just look at that instrument cluster! If that’s not a good preview of what’s to come, what is?
