The Lamborghini Huracan has got a more potent sibling, which wears the “Performante” badge. Of all the cars shown by the prominent German and Italian carmakers at the Geneva Auto Show, this is arguably the most talked-about. After all, it’s faster than the Porsche 918 Spyder around the Nurburgring.
So how did Lamborghini achieve that? First, there an updated powertrain. The 5.2-liter V10 that the Huracan shares with the Audi R8 has been tweaked to make 640 HP at 8000 RPM and 600 Nm of torque at 6500 RPM. By contrast, the standard (AWD) Huracan pushes out 610 HP and 560 Nm of torque.
Add to that uprated powertrain, some weight reduction measures- basically more prominent use of carbon-fiber. The lightweight material is used for the front spoiler, rear wing, rear diffuser, rear bumper and the engine bonnet. This results in a dry weight of 1382 kg.
However, the main reason for Performante’s ‘Ring record is its active aerodynamics. The front spoiler and rear wing have valves that can change the flow of air over the car to either increase downforce or reduce drag. Several cars use active aero but Lamborghini’s system is pretty unique and the Italian maker states that the set-up is the main reason why the Performante could break 918’s Nurburgring record.
Apart from all that, Lamborghini has also made changes to the suspension, exhaust system and the steering system. The cabin sees mild changes as well.
So how much does one has to pay for all this? Around $274,390.
