When it comes to market in 2019, the next-generation G20 3 Series might lose a family member. According to sources, the 3 Series Gran Turismo is likely to be phased out and somewhat replaced by a new 4 Series Gran Coupe. Same source says BMW realized the challenges of selling both models side-by-side and the decision to build just one of those practical models was an easy one.
Despite having a well balanced and sporty design, the 3 Series GT has always been the step brother of the 3 and 4 Series family, while the 4 Series Gran Coupe has been seen as an attractive choice for those that want the spirit and looks of a 4 Series Coupe with the additional and practical two door design.
The next-generation BMW G20 3 Series is rumored to feature a radical and fresh design, and it’s set to arrive in 2018. The 4 Series is set to arrive just a year later and will continue to offer coupe and convertible models as well. Sources say the G20 3 Series will feature some cutting edge design lines, with more sculpted surfaces than the current generation and more luxurious looks. The use of chrome is an interesting choice since it denotes both a sporty and premium design.
The dimensions are pretty much the same as the current generation F30, with the exception of the wheelbase which is about 7cm longer.
Both series will continue to be the bread-and-butter of the overall BMW sales while competing in one of the toughest car segments today.
