When the new Cadillac CTS-V was launched, the world of automotive enthusiasts rushed to call it a BMW M5 killer from the get go, just by looking at the spec sheet. And while they might’ve had a point there, the real-life results are seldom the ones you’d expect when it comes to BMW machines, especially those with the letter M on them. As the video posted below will show you, the M5 is more than capable of holding its own against his American rival.
Probably spurred on by the amazing ATS-V that did give the M3 a run for its money, a lot of people thought that the story will repeat itself with the CTS-V. Looking at the specs, the tables definitely seem to favor the American. Fitted with a 6.2-liter supercharged V8, the CTS-V can rely on 640 HP and 630 lb-ft (854 Nm) of torque to light up the rear tires. It also uses GM’s own 8-speed automatic gearbox that is claimed to be faster than even Porsche’s PDK double-clutch unit.
On the other hand, the BMW F10 M5 is about to be retired after six years of service. The car comes with a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 under the hood that was rated by BMW at 560 HP and 501 lb-ft (680 Nm) of torque. The power is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed DCT gearbox or, if you want to, a manual 6-speed unit, a rarity in this segment these days. However, the car in the video below is a DCT.
So, looking at the specs, you’d expect the huge difference in power in favor of the Caddy to settle this race rather easily, right? Well, you’d be wrong, as the BMW M5 not only wins but does so in a convincingly manner. What’s even more impressive and downright peculiar is the fact that the uploader claims both these cars were stock, which means these results should be easily repeated in a variety of scenarios.
