Safety is nothing to joke about and when you have GM’s faulty ignition switches to reflect on, anything that is even remotely close to starting a fire in your car has to be dealt with rapidly. That’s probably why BMW decided to recall the one BMW X3 that has a potentially faulty connection to the power steering that may or may not cause a fire later down the road.
“BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling one model year 2017 BMW X3 xDrive28i vehicle manufactured on June 7, 2016,” NTHSA says on their website. “This vehicle has electronic power steering (EPS), and the contact pins on the EPS control unit may not have been welded properly resulting in increased resistance. Consequence: An increase in pin contact resistance can increase the risk of a fire, even while the vehicle is parked and ignition is off.”
“BMW has not received any reports, nor is BMW otherwise aware, of any accidents or injuries related to this issue,” the company notes in its filings with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The recalled car is a facelift model built in the Spartanburg plant in the US.
