The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Verde has been receiving some stellar reviews even though sales have only begun in the old continent. Yet seeing a QV out on the road, tearing up asphalt is rare occasion for the BMW M3 rival. But what happens when it goes up against its bigger brother, the BMW F10 M5?
To get a better idea, we need to take a look at the specs first. The Alfa Romeo comes with a Ferrari developed 2.9-liter V6 turbocharged engine making 510 HP and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque, numbers good enough to put a lot of other cars to shame. Given its more compact size compared to the M5, the Italian can accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.9 seconds reaching a top speed of over 190 mph.
The outgoing M5 however, has a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that seems rather inefficient by comparison. Making 560 HP and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) of torque, the near 2-ton monster is a true Autobahn cruiser. It can accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) slower though, even with its super-fast 7-speed DCT gearbox, while its top speed is limited to 250 km/h (155 mph) by electronic nannies.
Therefore, seeing these two on the Autobahn, chasing each other should be an entertaining display for any car enthusiast. Of course, the Alfa is likely to have the upper hand, thanks to its better power/weight ratio,but the M5 has often been underestimated. What you need to remember though is that while the Giulia is on its way to dealerships around the world, the BMW F10 M5 is on its way out, the new one likely coming with a lot more power and less weight to carry around.
