We’ve seen some pretty crazy car mods before. We’ve seen people put Viper engines in little 3 Series’ and we’ve seen people make pickups out of BMW M3s. But we’ve never seen a car turned into a transformer. That’s exactly what Turkish company, Letrons, did with this E92 BMW 3 Series.
It seems like it started life as an BMW 328i. Now, there’s almost nothing left of that car except for the body and it turns into a giant transformer. That may sound like hyperbole, but it isn’t. It actually transforms into a tall robot. At the push of a button, the fenders slide outward and the entire body seems to stand up, pivoting at around the rear axle. The underbody is now the chest plate for a large robot and the fenders stick out like arms. Slowly, a head pops up from out of the chest, seemingly out of nowhere.
It’s actually pretty impressive, how it’s able to transform and stand up without tipping or wobbling. The head moves, as do the arms and even the fingers. There’s a lot of mechanics going on here. Admittedly, it looks a bit cheesy and looks like something a 12 year old would draw, but the mechanics are impressive nonetheless.
It doesn’t seem to move at all, though, as its “legs” seem to be the rear end of the car, which is planted as a base. I’m not sure if the rear wheels can move to push this large robot forward, but it doesn’t seem like it.
Apparently, this is just a prototype and the only functioning transformer that Letrons makes. However, the Turkish company has claimed that they are in the process of making more. I’m not so sure what the purpose of these transforming cars are and they seem like they cost a lot to make. I’m assuming they plan on selling these thing, but I’d be surprised if anyone outside of an oil sheikh would buy one. It’s still pretty cool to watch, though.
