Probably one of the most desired new cars of the moment, the BMW M2, is quite affordable. Compared to all of its M brothers, this is the cheapest true M model you can get and the performance it brings to the table is uncanny. I know we say that a lot around here but we just can’t get enough of the M2. However, not everyone has taken delivery of his/her brand new baby M model so far, leaving Youtube videos to soothe the pain of waiting.

One of these videos, published not long ago, shows us just how fast the baby M can reach its top speed, or at least close to top speed. Unlike most cars launched by BMW, the M2 is rather special, having its top speed limited to 270 km/h (168 mph) instead of the usual 250 km/h (155 mph). The reason behind this decision still remains a mystery but we welcome it nonetheless.

Of course, you’ll only get to use it on the track or on an unrestricted highway, of which there are none in the US. Even so, if you live Germany, where the video below was filmed, you might be in for the ride of your life. What makes the M2 even better is that tapping out the speedometer is the least fun you can have with it. Take it to a proper track or through some nice bends and you’ll learn why I’m saying this.

On the performance side of things, even though the acceleration in the video seems brutal, it’s not because of too much power. As I’m sure you already know, the M2 packs an upgraded N55 engine good for 370 HP and up to 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque, all of it sent to the rear wheels. Alas, that proves to be more than enough to reach 260 km/h (161 mph) in no time.
