The new BMW M2 is arguably on the best looking BMW cars the Bavarians currently offer. It’s been the most hotly anticipated car from the Bavarian brand since…well, we can’t think of another BMW that was so incredibly anticipated. We’ve long had the opinion that the 2 Series is one of BMW’s best looking model lines and soon after the BMW M2 came out, it’s only confirmation of our claim.
Even more, we dare to say the M2 could be one of the best looking sports cars on the market today. It looks positively aggressive and like it can take anything down on the race track. Being based on the 2 Series, the M2 has a beautiful profile an gorgeous lines. But, being a proper M car, it also has aggressive flared wheel arches and a mean stance. It’s wide, low and angry looking.
Hussein Al-Attar, BMW M2 Exterior Designer, says with the M2 there was a distinct desire to make the car immediately recognizable as an M Division product. Al-Attar wanted the M2 to be thought of as an M car immediately, but he also didn’t want it to be a carbon copy of the M4. So, for instance, the new front bumper on the M2 is instantly recognizable as an M car. The front air intake is also quite a bit more vertical than the M4’s, to distance it a little bit but also to add some verticality to the front end, as the M2 is so wide.
The BMW M2 was designed with functionality every step of the way. So the aerodynamics and styling cues went hand-in-hand when designing the BMW M2. Customer will not only have a great-looking car but also a monster on the track.
