Luxury electric-vehicle manufacturer Fisker is planning a comeback under a new name and technology. Now owned by Chinese auto parts company Wanxiang Group, the formerly called Fisker Automotive has moved production tools and equipment to California from Finland and plans to start selling their cars under the Revero name. The new name is a combination of the Latin “re” and “vero,” which the company says translates to “truth.”

The company is developing a luxury electric car and plans to unveil it this summer. The new car uses BMW AG electric vehicle control and charging systems under an agreement reached last year. The components will allow Karma to keep the original design of the car.

The company has been holding events with existing Fisker Karma owners to provide service and give upgrades to the electronics, and says 80 percent of them plan to upgrade to the new model. Karma also is considering whether to employ a direct-sales model similar to Tesla Motors Inc., or partner with franchised dealers.

Karma now has 500 employees, mostly in Costa Mesa.
