Today, BMW unveiled their vision for the future by showcasing a new, innovative and exquisite concept – BMW VISION NEXT 100.
BMW’s vision for the next 100 years is a sporting sedan since sedans are at BMW’s core, according to Adrian von Hooydonk – BMW Group Chief Designer. BMW Vision Next 100 is also autonomous, shape-shifting and powered by an unnamed drivetrain.
BMW gives this concept the term of 4D printing, as it believes that in 30 years it will be possible to rapidly prototype this type of design to provide function in addition to the physical form.
The car has two driving modes, one of them involving fully autonomous functions. But even when you’re driving, you’re in ‘Boost Mode’ with augmented-reality guiding you, projecting the ideal steering line and speed onto the windscreen. The augmented-reality display will also project hidden hazards into your field of view.
In Ease Mode, the car transforms physically, moving the steering wheel out of the way, relaxing the center console away from the driver, and making seats and door panels feel like a lounge setting.
Much of the body is fabric-like, with the fenders able to stretch when the wheels turn to keep them shrouded for aerodynamics. The concept also uses cast-off residue from making carbon-fiber components to create nonstructural body panels.
