The first BMW M2 units are starting to arrive at dealers around the world and customers are just days, if not hours away from picking up the highly-coveted M car. Over the next few months, the interwebs will be filled with comparison drives, comparison photos and in some cases, a head-to-head battle of exhaust systems.
The video embedded below shows a quick and dirty mini battle between the exhaust note of the new BMW M2 and the one generated by the M4.
The M4 has an absolute powerhouse underneath its low-slung hood. A twin-turbocharged 3.0 liter inline-six engine makes 425 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque, compared to the M2’s single turbocharged 3.0 liter I6 engine that makes 370 hp and 343 lb-ft of torque.
Based on our experience with the M2 last month at Laguna Seca, the new “baby-M” seems to have a raspier, fuller exhaust note which sounds more like an aftermarket exhaust than a standard one. For those that need even more enhanced acoustics, BMW will also offer an M Performance System for the M2.
