BMW Australia will sell two variants of the new BMW M2 Coupe. The six-speed manual gearbox – called M2 Pure – will sell for $89,000 Australian and the top of the line M2 DCT automatic will start at $98,900. Both models come standard with the Active M differential, M compound brakes, tire pressure monitor, driving assistant, rear park distance control, rear view camera, carbon fiber interior trim and Dakota leather upholstery.
To differentiate itself from the base model, the more expensive M2 will include the seven-speed DCT, Comfort Access System, adaptive headlights, BMW Selective Beam, power heated front seats with lumbar adjustment, alarm and a premium Harman/Kardon surround sound system.
Under the hood, both variants feature the 3.0 liter six-cylinder inline engine with 365 horsepower and 343 lb-ft of torque. All of that tech and power allows the M2, with the optional M Double Clutch Transmission (M DCT) in place and Launch Control activated, to sprint from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.3 seconds (4.5 s with the six-speed manual gearbox). The top speed of the new BMW M2 is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph). If the M Driver’s Package – which includes a BMW Driving Experience voucher for a track training course – is specified, this cut-off point doesn’t arrive until 270 km/h (168 mph).
The global rollout is scheduled for April 2016, even though the Leipzig plant has already begun producing them.
