The cat is out of the bag. After we’ve heard rumors that the new BMW M2 is faster than the E92 M3 around Nurburgring, now BMW just confirmed that. The M2 runs the Nurburgring in 7:58 minutes, 7 seconds faster than the V8 E92 M3. The BMW 1M ran the Nurburgring in 8:12 seconds, while the M3 CSL ran the same lap in 7:50 seconds. The standard BMW M4 Coupe recorded a lap time of 7:52 minutes. By any standards, the M2 is a fast car and ready for the track.
The new M2 is powered by a 3.0 liter TwinPower Turbo inline six-cylinder (N55B30T0) producing 365 hp @ 6500 RP and 343 lb-ft @ 1400-5560 RPM. An overboost function boosts torque by +26 lb-ft to 369 lb-ft between 1450 – 4750 RPM.
The redline comes at 7000 RPM. From 0 to 60 mph, the new BMW M2 runs in 4.2 seconds with 7-speed M DCT and Launch Control and 4.4 seconds with the six-speed manual.
