Porsche took Geneva by surprise this year with two extremely sporting world premieres: Porsche Cayman GT4 and Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
Even if both play in different leagues, the two cars were built with maximum performance in mind.
Porsche 911 GT3 RS
Compared to the “regular” 911 GT3, the GT3 RS version comes with a variety of visual and performance modifications.
Under the hood, the 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS uses a brand new 4.0-liter six-cylinder naturally-aspirated engine tuned to deliver 493 hp and 489 Nm (384 lb-ft) of torque , same power but more torque than the GT3 RS 4.0 – 15 lb-ft more. Compared to the 911 GT3, the GT3 RS delivers 25 hp and 60 lb-ft of torque more.
The engine is coupled to a seven-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission which sends power to the rear wheels. An advanced torque vectoring system and a variable locking differential are included with the new sporty 911. The car now weighs 1420 kg, 10 kilos less than the 911 GT3.
Porsche claims the new 911 GT3 RS will lap the Nurburgring Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 20 seconds.
From 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h), the new 911 GT3 RS will only need 3.3 seconds, while the 200 km/h (124 mph) mark is reached 10.9 seconds. Top speed is limited to 320 km/h (198 mph).
The Porsche 911 GT3 RS costs 181,690 Euro.
Porsche Cayman GT4
The new Porsche Cayman GT4 has a revised version of the 911’s 3.8 liter, flat-six, making 385 hp and can hit 60 mph from a standstill in a claimed 4.2 seconds. The big news for the purists is that it will come exclusively with a 6-speed manual. No PDK, 7-speed, twin-clutch auto available in the GT4.
Made with mostly 911 GT3 parts, the suspension is full-on track ready. The GT4 will also come with dynamic transmission mounts, and a 1.2” lower ride height. It also looks the part of a GT3 with its aggressive aero dynamics and huge rear-wing. Carbon ceramic brakes will also be available, to help the GT4 stop as well as it goes and handles.
The Cayman GT4 checks in at $85,595, that’s around $50,000 less than its 911 GT3 older brother.
