Professional Indy car driver Justin Wilson pits the 2015 BMW 228i against the 2015 Audi S3 in another episode of TFLcar test track.
One of the cars that we tracked in the past was the BMW 228i Coupe. This car is within a couple inches in all directions of the classic E46 M3, and some say it’s one of the best bimmers for the money.
The BMW 228i Coupe is equipped with a smaller 2.0 liter, turbocharged-four that makes 241 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque at a suitably low 1,450 rpm. When equipped with the M Sport package, the 228i gets bespoke suspension tuning (including a 10-millimetre drop in ride height and 17-inch M light-alloy wheels in double-spoke design), aerodynamically optimized body elements (including large front air intakes, striking side skirts and a diffuser for the rear apron), plus a special design for the BMW kidney grille and an exhaust tailpipe embellisher in high-gloss chrome.
The base price for the BMW 228i Coupe is $32,100, without the $925 destination and handling fee.
The Audi S3 is powered by an EA888 turbocharged four-cylinder engine that has been massaged to produce an even 300 hp. Force-fed by a single turbocharger, the 2.0-liter engine serves up its 280 lb-ft of twist from 1800 to 5500 rpm. Power peaks at 5500 rpm, and the long-stroke four-banger has a 6800-rpm redline.

0 to 62 mph is said to take 5.1 seconds with the optional six-speed dual-clutch box and 5.4 seconds with the six-speed manual.
While the 228i is down on power compared to the 2015 Audi S3, the 228i Coupe proves its worth in straight-line acceleration at a mile above sea level. Let’s have a look.
