The upcoming 2016 BMW G30 5 Series was caught on camera during a test trial on the German Autobahn. Still in the early evaluation phase, the test mule sports the typical camouflage with fake body panels underneath to cover the design lines.
According to our sources, the front bumper will certainly be bumped a notch in sportiness while the hood lines will give the G30 5 Series an aggressive and dynamic look. Some of the current BMW design features trickled their way into the G30 5 Series looks, starting with the headlights flowing into the kidney grille and the sporty character line flowing across the side of the car.
Inside BMW will stay true to its classy, sporty and premium design, but with a new touch. We expected to see a redesigned dashboard with the free-standing LCD display and tons of premium features currently found in higher-end models.
The G30 BMW 5 Series is built upon the BMW’s next generation platform called “35up”, a codename for a new platform that will bring lightweight materials and construction to mass production cars. CFRP will play an important role here.
Powertrains will include a selection of four cylinder 2.0 liter engines and 3.0-liter inline-six gasoline and diesel engines, as well as a hybrid drivetrain based on the new plug-in hybrid tech recently unveiled.
