Chris Harris of /DRIVE puts together a shootout between three outrageous 550+ hp cars from Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Jaguar.
The BMW M6 Gran Coupe is pitted against the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S and Jaguar XFR-S. In the UK, the BMW M6 Gran Coupe costs just under £98,000 and features a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with 552bhp and 680Nm of torque. It sprints from 0-60 in just 4.2 seconds before hitting a limited top speed of 155mph.
The E63 AMG is powered by a hand-built 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 which produces 577 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque in the top-of-the-line S-Model. Without fronting the extra cash for the S badge, it makes 550-hp and 531 lb-ft of torque. Power is transferred to the ground through a seven-speed semi-automatic gearbox using proper left-for-downshift, right-for-upshift steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
Jaguar XFR-S gets some changes to the engine-management controls and exhaust system squeezing an additional 40 horsepower and 41 lb-ft of torque from Jaguar’s 5.0-liter V-8, for totals of 550 and 502. That’s good for an estimated 0-to-60-mph time of barely more than four seconds and a top speed of 186 mph.
