Renowned California-based tuner Dinan gives the BMW 1M a significant power increase. The super sporty “baby-M” now outputs 398 horsepower at 5700 rpm and peak torque of 429 lb-ft at 4300 rpm.
The Stage 3 kit includes a carbon fiber cold air intake, a high-performance intercooler, ECU stage 3 map, high capacity oil cooler, racing coilover suspension, lightweight tubular adjustable front anti-roll bar and Dinan’s monoball kit.
The new 1M intercooler may also be used in conjunction with the Dinan oil cooler and Stage 3 Engine Software with increased boost pressure to take advantage of the improved intercooler efficiency.

The BMW 1M is very special vehicle with them only being manufactured one year in 2011. The team at Dinan felt this car deserved more from the aftermarket to make each 1M even more unique and more powerful, and now have launched a complete array of parts to give the smallest M-Car more power and added suspension performance.
The first of the new 1M modifications is Dinan’s Carbon fiber Cold Air intake. To maximize power output from the 3.0L turbo-charged six-cylinder, employs a hand-crafted carbon fiber unit that also features a secondary carbon fiber intake tube that captures cool air from the lower grill and includes shielding for the conical filter to insulate it from power robbing engine compartment heat. The system is so effective that the inlet air temperature is a full 40 degrees Fahrenheit cooler than the incoming air from the stock inlet.
Aiding in the goal to keep air temperatures down, Dinan has also released its High Performance intercooler for the E82. The Dinan intercooler provides a 93% increase in total volume, substantially reducing the pressure drop by 0.7 psi, as well as providing more efficient heat exchange. “Cool down” time is also reduced, enabling the car to produce full power under varying driving conditions such as stop and go traffic. The system has been engineered as a direct replacement for the stock unit, requiring only minor modifications for a clean, factory-like installation. The intercooler also features larger connector tubing and custom shrouding for maximum efficiency and turbo reliability. The new 1M intercooler may also be used in conjunction with the Dinan oil cooler and Stage 3 Engine Software with increased boost pressure to take advantage of the improved intercooler efficiency.
Dinan is known for its extensive knowledge of how to properly and safely tune BMW’s factory computer. The new 1M Stage 3 Performance Engine Software safely increases turbo-boost pressure and is optimized to take full advantage of the Dinan High Performance Intercooler. With a peak horsepower of 398 at 5700 rpm and peak torque of 429 lb-ft at 4300 rpm (as tested with the Dinan High Capacity Oil Cooler System and Dinan Free Flow Exhaust), this package makes for a monumental increase in power over the stock 335 horsepower and 370 (with overboost) lb-ft of torque.
With added horsepower and torque, having a more aggressive suspension setup is key. Dinan’s Racing Coilover suspension allows the driver to adjust to their preferred ride height and utilizes Beehive shaped front springs and low profile camber plates with progressive bump stops that allow the car to be lowered up to 3/4” and still maintain stock suspension travel. Dinan Quiet Design™ Camber plates make it the quietest coil-over suspension on the market and suspension packers are included to fine tune handling and comfort by changing the clearance of the progressive bump-stops. Camber is easy to adjust thanks to the slotted front mounts and is adjustable between -1.2 to -3.2 degrees.
Complimenting Dinan’s coilover system is the Lightweight Tubular Adjustable Front Anti-Roll Bar. Dinan’s bar is 42% lighter than a solid anti-roll bar of comparable stiffness. This anti-roll bar is adjustable from 50% to 90% stiffer than the stock bar, with 3 positions on the bar and end links that are left and right hand threaded for easy adjustment.
The final addition to the 1M suspension upgrade lineup is Dinan’s monoball kit. This kit replaces the factory rubber bushings with precision ball joints and machined aluminum housings. Responsiveness is further improved by eliminating the deflection inherent in the stock rubber bushings while also reducing brake shimmy. The quietest bearings on the market are virtually noise free so you can live with them everyday.
“Our 1M R&D vehicle has been an exciting build and we’re thrilled to have a big lineup of parts for the car,” said Dinan Engineering President, Steve Dinan. “1M owners are now able to make more horsepower and torque, while still having a reliable vehicle, backed by our factory matching warranty.”
Every Dinan product comes with our factory matching new car warranty and is designed and tested in Morgan Hill, California and can be purchased and installed at any Dinan Approved BMW dealerships nationwide. For more information on products and signature vehicles, visit www.dinancars.com.
